To make 20 kg of air freshener, you will scale up the ingredients proportionally and follow a systematic process to ensure a high-quality product. Here's the detailed guide:

Ingredients for 20 kg Air Freshener:

  1. Water: 19.34 kg (19,340 grams or 19.34 liters) - 96.7%
  2. SLES70% (surfactant): 140 grams (0.7%)
  3. NP9 (nonylphenol ethoxylate): 200 grams (1%)
  4. BAC50 (benzalkonium chloride, disinfectant): 200 grams (1%)
  5. Formalin (preservative): 40 grams (0.2%)
  6. Perfume: 80 grams (0.4%)
  7. Dye (optional): As needed

Equipment Needed:

  • Large, clean mixing container (25–30 liters capacity)
  • Stirring rod or mechanical mixer
  • Accurate measuring tools (scale, graduated containers)
  • Protective gear: gloves, goggles, apron, and mask

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Water

  1. Measure 19.34 liters of water and pour it into the mixing container.
  2. Ensure the water is clean and at room temperature (25–30°C).
  3. Stir gently for a few minutes to create a uniform base.

Step 2: Add SLES70%

  1. Measure 140 grams of SLES70% using a scale.
  2. Slowly add the SLES70% to the water while stirring continuously.
    • Observation: The water may become slightly foamy; this is normal.
  3. Stir for 5–10 minutes until the SLES70% is completely dissolved and evenly distributed.

Step 3: Add NP9

  1. Measure 200 grams of NP9 using a graduated container or scale.
  2. Gradually pour the NP9 into the mixture while stirring.
    • Observation: The solution will start to form a slightly viscous and stable consistency.
  3. Stir for 5–10 minutes to ensure the NP9 is fully incorporated.

Step 4: Add BAC50

  1. Measure 200 grams of BAC50 using a graduated container or scale.
  2. Slowly add the BAC50 to the mixture while stirring continuously.
    • Observation: The BAC50 adds antibacterial properties and may slightly clarify the solution.
  3. Stir for 5–10 minutes to ensure even distribution.

Step 5: Add Formalin

  1. Measure 40 grams of formalin using a scale.
  2. Slowly pour the formalin into the mixture while stirring.
    • Caution: Avoid inhaling the fumes and handle with care.
  3. Stir for 5–10 minutes to ensure even mixing.

Step 6: Add Perfume

  1. Measure 80 grams of perfume using a graduated container.
  2. Add the perfume to the mixture while stirring continuously.
    • Observation: The solution will develop a pleasant fragrance. Adjust stirring speed to avoid foaming.
  3. Stir for 5–10 minutes to evenly distribute the scent.

Step 7: Add Dye (Optional)

  1. Add dye in small increments (e.g., 1–2 drops at a time) until you achieve the desired color.
  2. Stir thoroughly after each addition to ensure the color is evenly dispersed.
    • Tip: Conduct a small test batch if unsure about the dye concentration.

Final Checks:

  1. Consistency: The air freshener should be a clear or slightly tinted liquid (depending on dye use) with no clumps or separation.
  2. Appearance: Uniform in texture and color, with no visible particles.
  3. Fragrance: Ensure the perfume scent is prominent and evenly distributed.

Storage Instructions:

  1. Transfer the finished product into clean, labeled storage containers (20-liter buckets or individual bottles).
  2. Seal the containers tightly to prevent contamination and fragrance loss.
  3. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

Safety Precautions:

  • Wear gloves, goggles, and a mask during the process to avoid skin irritation and inhalation of fumes.
  • Handle formalin and NP9 with care in a well-ventilated area.
  • Label the finished product clearly to avoid misuse.

By following these steps, you will produce a high-quality 20 kg batch of air freshener ready for use or sale.

Thanks Caleb. What happens if I just add lavender perfume to water. Will that not be an airfreshner enough?
You will have an airfreshner alright BUT it wont last long when sprayed. SLES 25% is one major component that allows the fragrance particles to spread-out and stay long enough in the air( leaving a long lasting fragrance in the room) because of how light-dense it is. You can test the two in your bathroom to see its effects. One with just water and perfume, and the other with water, SLES25% and perfume.
